What is the best age to start art classes? A Dubai parent's guide
There is no single right age, but what your child gets from art changes at every stage. Here is how to think about it, from age four to the teenage years.

It is one of the most common questions we hear from parents in Dubai: when should my child start art classes? The short answer is that children can begin meaningfully from around age four, and there is real value in starting early. The longer answer is that the right time depends on what you want your child to get out of it, because art gives different gifts at different ages.
There is no single "right" age, but each stage matters
Young children are natural artists long before they can write. Given colour, texture and gentle encouragement, a four-year-old builds confidence, fine-motor control and the simple joy of making. What changes as they grow is not whether they can do art, but what art can do for them.
Ages 4 to 6: play, confidence and little hands
At this age, art should feel like play. Sessions are short, hands-on and full of encouragement, colour mixing, finger and brush painting, squishing clay, simple drawing. The goal is not a perfect picture; it is confidence, coordination and the habit of creating. Our early-years art classes are built entirely around this.
Ages 6 to 12: real skills begin
Once children can focus for longer, they are ready for genuine technique, observational drawing, brush control, colour mixing, sculpture and mixed media. Projects become more ambitious and personal, and children start to develop their own style while learning the fundamentals that support every art form. This is the heart of our kids art classes.
Ages 13 to 18: technique, voice and portfolio
Teenagers who love art need more than a craft hour. They benefit from stronger technique, room to develop a personal voice, and, when they want it, a portfolio for school art, IGCSE or A-level, or university applications. Our teen art classes are designed for exactly this.
